Roamer at MVP // Dec 19th

Roamer brings together four of Ireland’s most internationally active improvising musicians to MVP’s upstairs this December

Thurs 19th December 2019
8pm | €10 entry

Their first outing together was in July 2016 for a two-night sold-out run at Arthur’s Blues’n’Jazz Club in Dublin, presented jointly by the Improvised Music Company, Diatribe Records and BlueMoods. Spring 2017 saw the group develop and workshop a new programme in collaboration with London-based Irish poet Cherry Smyth, premiered at the Bray Jazz Festival and supported by Arts Council Ireland.

Vocalist Lauren Kinsella was the 2016 recipient of Jazz FM UK Vocalist of the Year; saxophonist Matthew Halpin was the first Irish musician to receive the presidential scholarship to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music; Simon Jermyn is one of the most in-demand creative music bassists in New York and drummer Matthew Jacobson tours Ireland and Europe frequently with many leading improvising musicians and ensembles.

Each ‘roamer’ has represented Ireland extensively on stages around the world and this group provides a unique opportunity for audiences to see what happens when they bring all this experience together into one “breath-of-fresh-air Irish supergroup”.

Lauren Kinsella – vocals
Matthew Halpin – saxophone
Simon Jermyn – bass
Matthew Jacobson – drums
